June Alumni Board Meeting – Minutes

The reception for the retirees turned out to be a very well attended event. Approximately 200 people showed up and we spent around $100 on refreshments. Andy needs about 4-5 pictures of the event to put on the website.

Amy sent out Certificate of Membership to the 2 seniors whose parents responded to the membership to the Alumni Association.

Andy needs names of the West Burlington Alumni Scholarship winners, again to put on the website. Mary will provide.

Andy is going to talk to the Drake about doing an Alumni get together on August 6th out on the patio. He also will talk to Vern Reed about having his band provide music.

Mike is still working on getting the 501(3)(c) finalized so we can start collecting for scholarship funds that will be tax deductible. We are probably 3months to a year out on that realistically.

Julie Daniels nominated Lisa Graham for the the Scholarship chairperson, Andy Crowner seconded.

Mary Storch nominated Monica Hagen to be the Fund-raising chairperson, upon her approval. Julie Daniels seconded. Angie Osborn will be helping Monica with the fund-raising duties and Susan Vandenberg also agreed to help as needed. All funds raised thru future events will go into the “same pot” and distributed as seen by the officers. Funds that are already in the scholarship fund, will not be distributed for anything but scholarships.

Discussion was held about the 4th of July event. The WBAA will be selling raffle tickets starting at 6am to 10am at the fire station. The rest of the day we will be set up in front of city hall. Monica and Angie will be asking for volunteers for 2 hour shifts. Andy will email Angie the list of volunteers from last year and try to recruit them again. We will be doing the cupcake walk for the kids in front of the post office. Angie stated that she has been trying to contact Wal-Mart or Hy-Vee for a donation of 300 cupcakes. It was decided that, again, we will be asking for volunteers to bake cupcakes for the walk. Andy will send out the request in the newsletter with Angie and Monicas email address. We concluded that we could find 12-13 people to make 2 dozen cupcakes.

Mike Shinn will be sending out Dues Statements to those Alumni who only paid the annual fee. The annual fee expires June 30th yearly. We are hoping to get more lifetime memberships as we increase activities for members.

We are going to invite class reps to our next meeting on July 8th. The reps will be from the classes of 1965 and so forth in five year increments. Mary will be calling Karen Vogelgesang(65) Randy Messmaker (70) Brad McCloskey(00). Amy will call Randy Fry(80) Sherry Cluney(85) Kelly Fry(90). Andy will call Jon Munford (05) and julie will call Shelia Logan Stewart (75). We are hoping to get all the class reps to concentrate on finding their classmate, getting email and regular addresses so we can recruit them into the Alumni Association.

We are also looking for someone to head our Historical Committee. Mary suggested Sherry Kaestner. Andy will be putting a request out in the next email.

Loretta Poindexter suggested putting together a quilt to be raffled at next years homecoming game. She will get more specifics and get back with us.

Meeting Adjourned. Next meeting will be Thursday July 8th at 5:30.
